Dario Vitale of Emporio Armani: “I approach this role with a great sense of responsibility”

It’s official: Dario Vitale is the new Creative Director of Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani Accessories. The news comes after a period during which the designer was absent from the fashion scene, following a tumultuous journey.

In recent years, Dario Vitale has indeed established himself as one of the most interesting figures on the Italian creative scene. After a long career at Miu Miu, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the aesthetic that transformed the brand into the cultural and commercial phenomenon we know today, the designer was called upon to take on one of the most delicate legacies in contemporary fashion: that of Versace.

His arrival as creative director of the fashion house founded by Gianni Versace had been met with great curiosity, but his tenure came to an unexpected end after just one collection. This very brief stint inevitably raised questions about the designer’s future and the challenges that often accompany creative transitions within major fashion houses.

Now a new and significant opportunity has arisen. In the press release issued by the brand, Dario Vitale states: “I am honored to take on this new role for Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani Accessories, and I am deeply grateful to Silvana and Leo for welcoming me into their world. Armani has an important legacy and an unmistakable style—a heritage that spans decades and has shaped the history of fashion. I approach this with a great sense of responsibility and enthusiasm to build upon these foundations and define a new era together.”

This decision takes on special significance at a time when the entire Italian fashion industry is grappling with the issues of creative succession and renewal. Vitale brings with him a modern sensibility, a deep understanding of the product, and a proven ability to interpret the codes of luxury in a contemporary way.

Silvana Armani commented on the appointment as follows: “For us, Emporio Armani is much more than just a line: it is an enterprise to which we are deeply connected, because we have followed and shared in its journey from the very beginning. Emporio was founded as a space for freedom, experimentation, and energy, and we are convinced that the addition of Dario—a talent who has already made a name for himself on the international scene—to our team will allow him to interpret its spirit with respect and authenticity.”

It now remains to be seen how these elements will integrate with Emporio Armani’s identity, which has historically been associated with a more understated, urban, and versatile elegance.
