The Britney Spears biopic is happening: confirmation from the screenwriter and the potential leads

It’s been talked about for some time now, but confirmation has finally arrived: the Britney Spears biopic is happening. Screenwriter Elizabeth “Liz” Meriwether, the creator of *New Girl*, confirmed the news, telling *Vanity Fair* that the project is still in its early stages but that now might be the right time to revisit the pop star’s life and career.

Britney Spears’ story will therefore come to the big screen based on her own account of events. As Meriwether explained, the biopic will be based on the memoir Britney published in 2023, *The Woman in Me*, which immediately became a bestseller. In the book, the pop star recounts her life and career—from her rise to fame to her most difficult moments—and also details her experience with the court-ordered conservatorship, which remained in place for nearly 14 years.

But who will play Britney Spears? Ever since the first rumors surfaced about the possibility of a biopic, there has been a great deal of speculation about which actress might take on the role of the pop star. In the last few hours, Just Jared reported Kalshi’s predictions, according to which Olivia Holt is currently the favorite, with 31%. In second place is Sabrina Carpenter at 16%, followed by Sydney Sweeney (11%), Anya Taylor-Joy (9%), Addison Rae (7%), Chloë Grace Moretz (4%), Emma Roberts (4%), Florence Pugh (3%), and Millie Bobby Brown (1%). At the moment, however, there is still no official confirmation regarding the casting. The project is, in fact, still in the early stages of development.
