“Fashionopolis,” the upcoming film produced by Cate Blanchett that takes a stand against fast fashion

We’ve seen Cate Blanchett wear outfits on the red carpet that she’s worn before on several occasions. It’s an unusual style choice for a celebrity of her stature, but it makes perfect sense, especially when viewed in the context of the Oscar-winning actress’s upcoming project. Her production company, Dirty Films—founded alongside Andrew Upton and Coco Francini—has in fact signed on to produce the documentary adaptation of Dana Thomas’s book *Fashionopolis: The Price of Fast Fashion and the Future of Clothes*.

The film is directed by Reiner Holzemer, now a veteran of portraying fashion on screen thanks to documentaries he has directed, such as *Martin Margiela: In His Own Words*, *Dries*, and *Thom Browne: The Man Who Tailors Dreams*.

It is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Dana Thomas, who wrote the screenplay and will serve as a producer alongside Bronwyn Cosgrave, while Danielle Perissi is the executive producer.

The fashion industry is a 3,000 billion dollar industry, and *Fashionopolis* is not only a documentary that exposes the fast fashion industry but also a story about the people, institutions, and companies that are actively working to change it. “At its core, Fashionopolis is a film about possibilities,” Holzemer told The Hollywood Reporter. The documentary will feature designers, activists, and innovators committed to changing the industry, as well as how consumers’ everyday choices can help build a more equitable future.
