The countdown to the most anticipated sequel of the year has officially begun. The Devil Wears Prada 2 will arrive in Italian cinemas on April 29, and just days before its release, the final trailer has been released, bringing the iconic cast consisting of Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci back to the screen. After nearly two decades, they are set to return to the New York offices of Runway, amid fashion, power and dynamics yet to be rewritten.
The trailer also begins to outline the contours of the plot: Andy Sachs returns to Runway at a time of crisis for the magazine, which is called upon to reinvent itself in a completely different era than in the first film. It is a return that will not only be professional but also emotional-at least for us-because it will bring her back to meet familiar faces such as Emily and Nigel, as well as confront a new generation of protagonists. These include Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, and other new entrants who promise to add further pace to the story. Also returning are Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman as Lily and Irv.
The similarities with the first installment, The Devil Wears Prada, are evident from the very first images: the glossy offices, the impeccable looks, the fast pace, and that mix of irony and tension that had made the film a cult hit. But there is also a strong component of novelty, starting with the soundtrack, namely the original song “Runway,” performed by Lady Gaga and Doechii that accompanies the images and marks the transition to a new era.
Meanwhile, the film’s world tour has already kicked off, turning into a full-fledged traveling fashion show. First stop in Mexico City, where Anne Hathaway charmed in a black dress with gold surrealist inserts by Schiaparelli, followed by a sequined minidress paired with maxi boots by Stella McCartney. Meryl Streep, on the other hand, chose a powerful fire-engine red suit with a coordinating blouse and custom Dolce&Gabbana bow, followed by a blue satin chemisier dress with gold buttons in typical Schiaparelli taste.
In Tokyo, on the other hand, Anne opted for a dramatic dress with hints of red on the neckline and a black and white flounced skirt, while Meryl sported a red and white jacquard suit by Chanel. The tour will continue between Seoul and Shanghai, then land in New York for the world premiere and conclude in London with the European premiere. The anticipation, meanwhile, continues to grow: because if it is true that the devil still wears Prada, this time it seems ready to rewrite the rules of the game.
